About the Certification in Public Health (CPH)

Credentialing Public Health Professionals

The Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential is the only credential of its kind for public health that demonstrates not only your knowledge of key public health sciences, but also your commitment to the field through continuing education focused on emerging and established public health issues. The CPH credential distinguishes you as a public health professional at the cutting edge of an ever-evolving field.

The CPH is the mark of a public health professional. Join the ranks of the more-than 14,000 public health leaders by sitting for and successfully passing the CPH exam. Stand out from your peers by showing employers that you can meet and maintain a national standard in public health through continuing education.

Be the public health professional that the public needs.

Be CPH certified!

“My CPH certification is a very valuable addition to my career in oncology clinical quality and data analysis. It has helped me to maintain a solid foundation in epidemiology skills, in order to analyze and present clinical data in a way that better serves our medical staff and, ultimately, our patient population.”

CPH Exam Content

The Certified in Public Health (CPH) exam covers the areas of knowledge relevant to contemporary public health and general principles. The examination is developed to assess a person’s knowledge of these competencies, regardless of his or her area of expertise.

The National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) conducts a Job Task Analysis (JTA) every five to seven years to update the CPH examination. As public health professionals’ work changes over time, this process ensures CPH candidates are being tested on tasks performed in the field.
