Tips for Success
Practice tests are a useful tool to help you identify how you perform in each domain of the CPH exam. It is best practice to avoid taking the same practice test repeatedly because you may memorize those questions instead of assessing your knowledge of that content. NBPHE recommends the following steps to utilize the available practice tests best:
- Take one practice exam to see which areas you may need to study. The practice exam(s) will provide an assessment of how you performed in each domain: Possible strengths, satisfactory, and possible weaknesses.
- Create a study plan based on the areas you need to study. NBPHE offers many study resources. Check out the Study Resource Page as a starting point for study tips and links to available materials.
- Study.
- Take a second practice exam to see how you've improved.
- Continue to study until you feel you are prepared to take the CPH exam.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I purchase this tool?
If you want to take an additional practice exam, you should purchase the third practice exam. The items on this exam differ from those on the two free practice exams, but they are developed and delivered in the same format.
2. I registered and paid the subscription fee but haven't received an email to log in.
Please check your email's spam or junk folder. If you still haven't received the email, please contact support at [email protected].
3. How long will this practice exam take?
You should estimate one hour for the practice exam. This will give you a sense of the pace for the CPH exam.
4. How was this practice exam created?
This practice exam was created using retired CPH certification exam items written and reviewed by subject matter experts (SMEs), and the form was assembled utilizing the exam blueprint.
5. What certification best practices were used in developing the practice exam?
The certification development process starts with a job/task analysis (JTA), which lays the foundation for the program requirements. The knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) identified during the JTA help form the certification exam's blueprint and content outline.
Item writing begins once the JTA establishes the content outline and exam blueprint. Certification exam items are written by subject matter experts (SMEs) with professional experience in the certification's subject matter. The SMEs are trained in item writing best practices, write items, and then different SMEs review the items written to ensure the item information is correct and pertinent to the exam.
After the items are written and reviewed, an exam form is assembled based on the exam blueprint. A group of SMEs review it to look for content imbalances, item enemies, and any missed grammatical or typographical errors.
The final two steps in developing a certification exam are to pilot test an exam form and establish a passing score for that form. These steps are not part of the practice exam development process. However, the items used in the practice test are questions retired from the CPH item bank.
6. When is the best time to take a practice test?
Practice tests can be the most effective if you use them throughout your study plan to guide you on which areas to study. Take a practice test when you plan to start studying to see which areas of the content outline you may need to focus on. Then, take a practice test to see how you've improved.
7. Are the questions on the practice test like the questions on the CPH exam?
The practice exams are the most accurate representations of the CPH exam. This practice test contains questions retired from the CPH item bank.
